Me and my walking bezzie, Ace!

So walking is just putting one step in front of the other to get us to where we want to go right? Err yes essentially but I’m not on about walking in general. I’m talking about taking 30 minutes out of your day for you.

Walking has so many benefits, firstly it adds to all those daily steps of the recommended 10,000 per day.....please note a 30 minute walk will only give you half of this dose.

So.....Get some comfy shoes on and go for a walk, put your phone away and have no distractions. Go on different routes, walk around the streets or the park but its even better if you can find a canal or a field. There are so many little hidden paths that lead to open fields and walks, go an adventure, look down the path you’ve never been down, it may lead you to a beautiful open meadow and become one of your favourite views.

Walking is good for your soul!

If you’re on your own...better! It’s pure thinking and chill out time for you and your mind....I have loads of ideas come to me when I walk. I plan my work and home life and feel focused and fresher.

If I’m lucky that my children want to actually come on a dog walk with me, this is also heaven. We talk about all sorts of things, they ask questions, tell me about their feelings and then we end up doing all sorts from trying to make it over stepping stones on a brook or running races or find a tree to climb. If you have smaller children, play a game with them, tell them you’re all going on an adventure to find the woodland fairy or even the gruffalo....make it up, be creative for their imagination....and if they start to moan promise ice-scream on the way home!

I also have a community of friends who I look at as my family. As were approaching certain ages and hangovers are a thing of the past we still want to spend time with each other, big kids and little kids...so what do we do...we walk! We plan a day, pick a walk and make some memories adventuring....Yes it’s a great time for the girls to get their tackle in but hey your burning even more calories in right?

The point I want to make is, you don’t need a dog, your children, or even a group of friends....you don’t even need any money. You need yourself! And that you have!

Walking is sooo underrated....it’s all free and on your doorstep!

Get yourself out, get your daily steps in. Do it consistently....everyday if you can. If you find everyday impossible, start by doing it once a weekend, then add one evening a week in and build up...you’ll soon find it easy and manageable.

And who knows where this may lead you to.....I ended up walking Snowdon last year and without a doubt it’s one of the best things I’ve achieved....going on active adventure with your friends that doesn’t cost the earth and you get to spend quality time with quality people.....priceless!

When you walk - You will become more focused, healthy and hopefully....Happy!

Me on top of the world. Well, Snowdon at least.
